Dr. Julie McKay

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Dr. Julie A. McKay, Psy.D., LP is a licensed psychologist (LP MN 5959, PsyPact APPIT 14661) and an Infant Mental Health Endorsed Level IV Clinical Mentor, specializing in the mental health and development of children, adolescents, and young adults. She earned her Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from Wheaton College Graduate School, where her dissertation explored caregiving practices for grieving orphaned children in Zambia. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship in Infant Mental Health and Child Development at the University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine through the Irving Harris Fellowship Program.

In her clinical practice, Dr. McKay treats a wide range of age and disorders. She is trained in evidence-based interventions such as Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), SPACE, Trauma-Focused CBT (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and parent coaching. She also incorporates relational, dyadic, and animal-assisted therapies into her work.

Dr. McKay’s prior experience includes developing and implementing innovative early childhood mental health programs at Children’s Hospital of Minnesota. She has provided consultation and training to hospital staff, community providers, and graduate trainees, and serves as an expert witness in child development and infant mental health.

She is active in professional organizations including AFCC Minnesota, Minnesota Psychological Association, Minnesota Association for Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health, World Association for Infant Mental Health, and the American Psychological Association. Her international work includes teaching and curriculum development in Kenya and Uganda, focusing on trauma-informed care, child development, and community-based interventions.

Dr. McKay combines clinical expertise, research experience, and leadership in early childhood mental health to support children, families, and professionals in achieving optimal emotional and developmental outcomes.
